James 3:8-10- “But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.”
The Bible speaks of a member of the body being unruly and cannot be tamed and it has caused many conflicts among the body of Christ. This member is the Tongue. According to James, “see how great a forest a little fire kindle!” So many have been hurt because of the words that this unruly member has spoken. It is far from the truth the saying, stick and stones may break my bone, but harsh words cannot. Many have gone into depression, suicidal thoughts, committed crime all because of some unkind words spoken by a love one, a friend, a confidant, a mentor, a teacher, a family member and I could go on and on.
The bible says in St Matthew 12:34 last part, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Has a household of believers we must be careful and caring in how we relate one with another. Let us not allow the unruly member to rule us but heed the advice of the wiseman Solomon a soft answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger. Provers 15:1
There maybe just cause for retaliating but remember God promises to fight our battles. Learn to forgive at all time and depend on God to get us over the challenges we face. Let us pledge to baptise our tongue in the name of Jesus and think with a prayer in our heart before responding to a negative comment. We can overcome but first we must adopt the mind of Jesus (Philippians 2:5).
Being a member of the body of Christ our words should be like an apple of gold in settings of silver (Proverbs 25:11). Let the love of Christ constrain us and live at peace with each other. Bring that unruly member under control and peace will ruin, Satan defeated and our God glorified.
