Can I Worship Your God?

Ruth 2:16 But Ruth said:“Entreat me not to leave you,or to turn back from following after you;For wherever you go, I will go;And wherever you lodge, I will lodge;Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.

The calamity that befall Naomi was not a good one. She and her husband had made the decision to take their family to Moab because there was a severe famine in Bethlehem Judah. While in Moab tragedy struck; Naomi lost her husband and two sons who had gotten married to Moabite women. This broke her heart, but while living in Moab she and her family represented the God of Israel.

They were faithful to their God and their son’s wives Ruth and Oprah started worshipping their God.This was an example of true worship to the God of heaven their creator. Words came that the famine was over, and Naomi decided to return to her land of birth. Her decision made her daughters-in-law sad. So they decided to return with her and although she discouraged it, Ruth insisted that she would go and not turn back.

Naomi and her family were a true representation of their God. How about you? We interact with family, friends, neighbours, co-workers, classmates and others daily. Do they know our God? Will they be willing to worship with us because we represent God well? In our interaction with those we rub shoulder with have they seen a true reflection of God in us? Can others see Jesus in us?

Not until this is so will we hear them say, Can I Worship Your God? Even in our disagreement with others they must see Jesus in us. My prayer for us as members of the household of faith is, let Jesus be Lord and governor of our lives. In that way famine or plenty someone will say to us like Ruth said to Naomi, “your people will be my people and your God my God”.
