Stop Throwing Stones

So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” St. John 8:7

The morning’s solitude was broken by the noise of the angry mob. They had plotted and caught her red handed. Now they were taking her to Jesus. According to the Bible she was caught in the very act of adultery and the law of Moses stated that any person so caught should be stoned to death. But if that was the case why take her to Jesus. But it was Jesus that they were after and not so much the woman.

There they were, dragging her to the master. Stones of different size and shape in their hands ready to be thrown. Like an avalanche the crowd that was with Jesus parted leaving Him to the mercy of the leaders and their victim. What would He do the people wondered. It seems like they had Him cornered.

St John 8:4-5 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”

The scripture recorded that He stoop and wrote on the ground and before long those who accused the woman dropped their stones and went home.

You see my friends some of us like throwing stones whenever we see our brothers or sisters in the wrong and sometimes our deeds are far worst that the ones we are quick to stone. I thank God for His grace and mercy. Jesus is our example and therefore we should be merciful to others and help our fellow brethren who had fallen.

Paul encourages us in Galatians 6:1-2 “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
